The Office of the Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, the Office of Research and Development and the TEDxHowardUniversity Committee will host 2016’s TEDxHowardUniversity event, themed “Recovery,” on September 15 in the Blackburn Center Ballroom at 5:30 p.m.
TEDx brings together bright minds to give idea-focused talks that range from a wide scope of subjects, which foster learning, inspiration and provoke impactful conversations. For Howard, having first hosted TEDxHowardUniversity in January 2015, TEDx is a platform to also increase visibility of HU research-based graduate programs to a global audience. This year’s theme is an outgrowth of the Graduate School's Mental Health Campaign, launched in 2014. The event will also highlight Howard University’s 150th anniversary.
Dr. Burge will be speaking together with Dr. Grant Warner from Mechanical Engineering on addressing entrepreneurial aspects of recovery.
Additional, TEDxHowardUniversity 2016 speakers include: Dr. Georgia M. Dunston, HU National Human Genome Project Center, on recovery as a product of one’s human genome makeup and heredity; Haely Jardas, 2015-16 Miss District of Columbia, whose platform focuses on mental health, addressing the misconception of beauty; and Dr. Robert Shepard, HU alumnus, entrepreneur and motivational speaker, on his journey to becoming an internationally-recognized African-American scientist in the field of chemistry.
